Your day at the races
Going racing for the first time can seem daunting. Lots of phrases you don't understand, lots of ticket prices, restrictions on where you can go and what you have to wear can be off-putting. However, Lingfield Park is a great choice to experience your first day at the races
Step 1: get a group of friends together and decide on a
date that you'd like to come.
Tickets can be
booked in advance online and by telephone. Go to the fixture you're
interested in attending as it will have lots more information about
the day including timings and details of any scheduled
entertainment.
Groups of
ten or more benefit from a group discount.
Step 2: what to wear
Lingfield Park does not operate a strict dress code however, we do ask that our customers
respect other guests. Smart casual, including smart jeans and
trainers are fine but please, no torn jeans or football shirts.
Step 3: arrive at the racecourse
Plan how you're getting to Lingfield Park.
Car and coach parking is free. Alternatively Lingfield
train station is just a 5 minute walk away.
Lingfield Park only has one enclosure which means you can go
everywhere.
Purchase a race card to look at the horses which are running that
day, the jockeys who are riding, the colours they will be wearing
as well as lots of information about places to eat and drink and a
map of the course.
If you're a hospitality guest, find out which box you're in
beforehand and make sure you've got your ticket as you'll
need it to get in. There's likely to be race cards in the box
as well as food and drink but check with the organiser
beforehand.
If you have a table in the Trackside Restaurant, your table will be available as soon as you arrive and is your base for the entire day.
Step 4: what to do
Head to the Parade Ring, pick a horse and maybe
place a bet on it? If you don't know anything about horses, our
handy guide
All about the Horse will help with some pointers on what to
look for and then we can explain
How to Bet with our pocket-sized guide.
The TOTE takes small bet amounts (eg £2 minimum stakes) and
will be happy to advise you on either how to place a bet with the Tote or inform you
on what type of bets can be placed. A flutter can
really add to the exhilaration of the day.
Then, take your place in the stands to watch the race!
There's just time for a quick drink or bite to eat before the next race. We have lots of places around course to suit a variety of tastes.
Step 5: any questions?
If you need help at any point during your day, our member of our
team will always be close by and delighted to answer any questions
you may have. Please don't be afraid to ask. We've also
complied a list of the most commonly used words which may not be
familiar.
