The Sportingbet supports HEROS Winter Derby is the highlight of the All-Weather season and an extremely popular event in the racing calendar marking the end of Arena Leisure's all-weather season with total prize money on the day of £280,000.
The Winter Derby is a Group 3 contest for 4 year olds and upwards, run over a distance of 1m 2f. The race was first contested in 1998 and was given listed status in its second year, soon to be promoted to Group 3 level in 2006. In previous years the race has lured some of the best horses and jockeys such as the 2005 winning combination of jockey John Egan and Eccentric and many other top class horses including Blue Bajan, Orchard Supreme, Grand Passion and last year's winner Richard Hannon trained Scintillo.
The Winter Derby is supported by two ultra competitive, Listed contests, The Hever Sprint and The Spring Cup as well as the £50,000 grand finally of the brand new ‘Super 7' series.
Sportingbet and HEROS are also hosting a charity race for ex-jockeys, trainers and stable staff, among those taking part is John Reid who will be hoping to repeat his winning performance in last year's equivalent race.
The racing public will be able to meet and view some of the ex-racehorses who enjoyed success at Lingfield currently under the HEROS re-training regime during a parade and commentary on the day.
